DECKHAND

DECKHAND
Please note: Higher salary levels reflect pay scales for experienced deckhands / Lower salary reflects entry level range
120 ft - 200 ft + $2200-$3600 per month On the largest luxury yachts, there maybe as many as 5-7 exterior and deck crew.  Duties will be assigned according to your rank.  This is the size yacht where entry level crew are most commonly considered.  Licence and certification not always required.
100 ft - 160 ft $2200 - $3200 per month On mid-size vessels, there may be 1-3 deckhands, depending on the size.  There may be senior deckhands and junior deckhands.  You should learn your daily duties and perform them without instruction.  Duties may vary licences and certification not always required.
60 ft - 110 ft $2000 - $3200 per month On smaller vessels, there is normally only 1 deckhand.  This job will be multi-functional.  You will be working very closely with the Captain and may be required to do work both inside and outside of the vessel.  Duties may vary licence and certification not always required.
STEWARD/ESS - PURSER
STEWARD / ESS  SIZE OF VESSEL SALARY RANGE JOB DESCRIPTION AND REQUIREMENTS

Chief Steward/ess 100 ft - 140 ft $3000 - $5000 per month Primary interface to the guests.  Must possess excellent interaction skills.  Hard work and discretion essential.  Ability to work well as part of a team.  Assist on deck if necessary.  Ability to work long hours.  Possible assist in the galley. 
2nd Steward/ess All yachts $2000-$4500 per month Right hand' to the chief steward/ess.  Must be keen to learn and follow direction given the by the chief.  Should have at least 1 years experience onboard yachts and 3 years in the hospitality industry.
Junior Steward/ess All yachts $2000-$2500 per month An entry level position. Must possess a positive and friendly personality combined with drive and determination to learn the trade and do the long hours that are required to earn promotion in the industry.

120 ft - 200 ft + $2000 - $3500 per month In all cases, a Nanny position can be multi-functional.  Depending upon the other job requirements specified by the employer a Nanny can find themselves involved in a variety of other duties from Stewardess to Deckhand to Galley Assistant.  Be clear during an interview to determine exactly what your responsibilities are.  The job description with regard to kids is usually simple:  'Keep the kids SAFE, happy and occupied.  The rest will follow with instruction from the Captain and senior officers on board.  Prior experience on yachts may not be necessary but childcare experience is essential.
